Recently, I take the error “The folder path ‘C:’ contains invalid character” when I try to install iTunes 8.1 to my Vista box.
I get rid of this error by following the steps below. It worked for me. Hopefully, it works for you.
- Open the registry editor by using the command “regedit” from the “Run” window.
- Go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE–>SOFTWARE”
- Delete “Apple Computer, Inc.” and “Apple Inc.” items
- Try to reinstall iTunes.
And, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, The iTunesssss (It’ll be nice to give an explosion sound effect in the background.
)

this didn’t work for me.
got any other solutions?
Hi Raciel,
I looked for the solution for some time. I read most of the forums related about the problem. There are lots of explanations about it.
The above worked for me. Therefore, I wanted to share it. I thought, it might help others. However, there is no unique solution for this problem. It depends on OS, version number etc.
If you find another solution, please share it with us.
Thanks.
Worked for me, thanks for the tip! Summer
Hi, if it still doesn’t work, also try the following
1.goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > APPLICATIONS
2.delete itunes folder
Thanks, this has solved a major issue that I have had for weeks now. Don’t know why I didn’t just search the error message into google. Worked for iTunes 10
